Chances are you are looking at this page because a part of you experiences a desire to grow, to be more, to experience yourself, your life more fully. I’m glad you are listening to that part, and that your manager parts (who don’t like change) are allowing you to read this.
What an IFS therapist is able to offer is guidance to enable you to recognise more readily when you are in Self – peaceful, calm, centered, connected, creative, curious and compassionate – and when you are blending with a part. Experiences of being sad, feeling worthless; needing to excessively drink, work, sleep, drug, binge; being highly critical and judgmental of others; these are all indicators that a part is seeking your attention.
When you are experiencing a lot of Self energy and your protector parts are willing to step aside you are able to listen to the parts that are getting your attention. When you hear their whole story, what they are carrying and how they feel, and they know that you “get it” they are able to be liberated from their position in the system (unburdened) and no longer require your attention.
Your system is then freed up to allow you to experience your Self more often. As you continue to work with this process your parts will learn to trust that you can be relied on, that you are available to listen to them, and that you can be relied upon to help out when required. As you spend more time in your peaceful centered Self you require less outside intervention (from your therapist) as you become increasingly Self-led and less parts-driven.
As you spend more time in Self you will both attract others to you that enjoy Self, and be attracted to connecting with others who experience themselves as Self led.
This is a joyful journey, I wish you well.
